Respiratory Tract Infections - ways on how to prevent it

Parts of the body that are involved in the respiratory tract infections are:

1. Upper Respiratory Tract

  • nose
  • oropharynx
  • larynx
2. Lower Respiratory Tract
  • lower airways
  • lungs
Diseases that involves the respiratory tract are:
  • common colds
  • influenza
  • pneumonia
  • tuberculosis
  • fungal infections of the lungs
Different types of microorganism causes respiratory tract infections and its signs and symptoms depend on the severity, age, and general status of the person. It ranges from a simple self-limiting cold to a life-threatening pneumonia.
But viruses is the most frequent cause of respiratory tract infection. It is easier to transfer, smaller than the bacteria, and worst, cannot be killed by antibiotics but usually self-limiting.

As a nurse, our main objective is not to treat the disease but to prevent it. Prevention is better than treatment because why do we have to wait a person to be sick and then treat him if we could prevent him to get sick?
There are many ways to prevent respiratory tract infections like: handwashing before eating or even touching your eyes or nose or mouth to prevent transmission of microorganism from your hands to the upper respiratory tract. And since respiratory tract infections are spread airborne or droplet, avoid to be in the same room with the infected person, remember, it is very contagious.
Technology nowadays help people to know more about their health and invent something new to restore and protect the health of the people. Company like EcoQuest, that offers us a technology that reduces our exposure to infectious microorganism. It can be use to hospitals or homes to clean our air so that respiratory tract infections will be lessen if eradication is not possible.
We can effect more of this technological innovations in the near future especially with this company because it is their expertise.
